East Ridge Middle School will continue their peer tutoring program this year. There will only be a limited amount of spots for peer tutors this year, so please keep your eyes and ears open to find out when there are sign ups. Please do not sign up unless you are going to be committed to making this a very active program this year. I look forward to welcoming you into this very important activity.
What Is A Peer Tutor?
· A peer tutor is a student who has been chosen to “buddy up” with another student that may need extra help in class.
· A peer tutor is a good example of appropriate class and social behavior.
· A peer tutor is an encouraging voice.
· A peer tutor is a friend.
What are the roles of a Peer Tutor?
· Assisting the student with class work as a partner in the general education setting.
· Accompanying the extended resource classroom at selected Special Olympics events as a volunteer.
· Being a good role model in and out of the classroom setting.
An application/permission note for peer tutoring will be given out in homebase after the first 6 weeks. Go over this form with your child to make sure that peer tutoring is the appropriate activity for them. If they are truly interested in getting involved, they should come see Mrs. Trent for 2 teacher recommendation forms. These must be completed by the teacher and returned to Mrs. Trent.
