The West View Beta Club, with the help of East Ridge Betas, collected money at the recent football matchup between the West View Indians and the East Ridge Bears for a friend who is battling cancer. The game was dedicated to a West View student and football player, Jonathan Fluker, who is battling cancer.
West View Beta Club sponsored hat day today in order to raise money for Jonathan and his family.
Both West View and East Ridge Beta Clubs also collected throughout the game at the gates and in between the quarters.
This money will go to Jonathan’s family to support his treatment and fight against cancer.
At the end of the first and third quarters, Jonathan’s favorite song, “You and I” by Anarbor was played. During this time, buckets were passed around.
All money collected went to the Fluker family.
Jonathan’s story
I celebrated my 11th birthday on Aug. 7 of this year. Eleven days later, I found out I have non-rhabdomyosarcoma, a malignant tumor in my pelvic bone that is pressing against the nerves of my spinal column. The doctor says that it’s a rare kind of tumor, but that means I’m a rare kind of kid!
I’ve had a lot of tests done in the last few days and I’m getting ready to start chemo.
My goal is to knock this thing out!
To tell you a little bit about me, I’m in the sixth grade at West View Middle School (but I’m on homebound now). I like to play video games, read, play football, and listening to music – my favorite song these days is the theme from the new Scooby Doo movie, “You and I” by Anabor. I have two sisters, Briana, who’s 8 (almost 9) and Kelley who is 6.
I am getting ready to start working on making my own knife with my Pappaw. He has made some really cool knives, so he’s going to help me make one of my own.I am a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Morristown. They have been really supportive and they are always praying for me.
